Internet Dating Communication Tips
Excellent communication is very important when meeting people online. The key to developing a good, healthy relationship is good communication and honesty. You must make sure you present yourself as a person who has high integrity and possess excellent communication skills. There are six key communication tips that are necessary when dating online.
- Correspondence methods when meeting online are via instant messenger and email. Make sure your humor comes across in that manner when corresponding through those tools. Communicating online can sometimes read differently than it would if it had been said over the phone or in person, since you can’t hear the person’s voice or see their body language.
- Gain as much information as possible. Ask detailed questions to find out if the person would be a good match for you. The more information you find out in the beginning, the better it will be for you. If you chat with several individuals, make sure you keep track of each person’s information.
- Always use your intuition. Trust your gut instinct. If something doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t right. If you begin to feel uncomfortable, cease any communication with the person. Do not answer any emails or instant messages that make you feel uneasy. If necessary, block the person and you will not receive any further messages from that individual.
- Terminate any correspondence if the person lies about anything. In order to have good communication, both individuals must be open and honest. It will be impossible to have a good relationship, if the person tells lies. Cut your losses and move on.
- Don’t waste your time if a photo is not posted of a person you may be interested in. The only exception would be if the person is fairly new and has not gotten the chance to upload their photos. You can ask for a photo to be sent via email, but if they give you lame excuses, such as “I don’t have a camera” or “I don’t have pictures taken of myself”, keep moving and cut your losses. In these times, people can use a digital camera and take a few photos to upload, or they could even purchase a disposable camera and have the photos placed on a CD. Most likely if they will not supply you with a photo, they may be involved with someone.
- Be cautious when giving out your phone number. Once you have chatted online for a while, you may feel you are ready to chat on the phone. It is best to give out your cell number, since it is not published and can be changed if need be. Being able to speak to someone on the phone can change the way you picture that person. Make sure to wait enough time before giving out your number.
