Internet Dating Scams and How To Avoid Being Scammed- part 8
About now you decide that you still haven’t heard back from the accounts department… You may have had a few pleasant emails saying they are looking into it, that the person in accounts is on leave or something. Even that maybe that we are upgrading our account system or many various other excuses. Even that the refund has been processed, but of course it hasn’t but it delays you another week or two. Blaming Paypal or a problem with Paypal all designed to stall you until the time limit on Paypal refutes period has passed.
Or maybe they just eventually come out and say you have used the credits and quoting something buried deep in their pages and pages of their terms and conditions, which of course you have agreed to by default when you signed up with them.
Nothing for it but to say goodbye to your money and a hard lesson learnt. Hopefully you won’t be caught out again. Next time do a little more research on who you are dealing with. But of course these scam companies will write their own glowing reviews, and even have other sites referring to them with glowing recommendations or testimonials. Just look for people offering or asking for these services on various forums such as BlackhatWorld and the like. You can buy false face-book likes, twitter posts, followers, Yelp reviews, testimonials and whatever you like so take much with a grain of salt unless you personally know someone who has success with a particular site. Don’t trust or believe anything you see on the Internet theses days.
But there are good genuine sites out there. Usually they are small local ones that specialise. They won’t have the thousands of beautiful stunning model lookalikes, but they will have some very genuine ladies who are still pretty stunning, and they actually exist. Look for an agency with a phone number and an physical address, rather than just a postal box. Once again of course even these these can just be fronts. I remember checking out one business who had a photo of a massive impressive looking building, giving the impression that they owned or leased it and of course appeared to have a large number of staff….with such statements as ‘all our staff undergo a full background and security check”. They were not lying, just that by ‘all our staff’ he actually meant, just me… In reality when I visited he had one small room that he sublet in the building and a staff of one, him! So don’t be fooled. Virtual offices are everywhere where you can pay a few dollars for a virtual address and of course a phone number can be anywhere.
Try and get a small agency that is local that you can visit personally or have someone go in and check them out for you. Do a bit of research before you risk any of your hard earned money.
