Internet Dating Scams and How To Avoid Being Scammed

So you are in love with this Russian beauty after a few letters and what’s more she seems to be head over heels in love with you too. That’s great, right?  Read on. All may not quite be as it seems. There are warning signs and things to look out for.

First off, if the first contact is an email from her and you haven’t registered on any dating site, then its a scam. No questions, ifs or maybe. Yup, a beautiful Russian girl has just decided one day to email a completely random email address in the hope that the owner is a male, around the right age, not already married and not gay, oh and half a world away. Any email coming to you unsolicited is a scam as well as SPAM and should be dumped straight in the trash or better yet your spam folder so your mail client knows it is spam for the next time exactly the same message arrives, but from another name.

However if you have signed up on some sort of foreign dating site, and there are thousands of them, and may have made the first contact or maybe she has contacted you from the site, how can you tell its a scam?  You can’t for sure, at least not right away in many cases…some of course are obvious in the first email is she is asking for money. I say ‘she’, it could of course and may well be a male that you are responding with who I can assure you looks nothing like her photos.

Obvious tell tale signs. Look out for them. Make up your mind to be sceptical right from the start. We have seen so many men who have been sucked in, that all the signs were there and they could see it in hindsight but were so carried away at the thought of this gorgeous younger woman had fallen in love with them over email that they failed to see or look out for the tell-tale red flags. We will discuss a few of them here. These are by no means all, and one or maybe two on its own doesn’t mean its a scam for sure but any single one of these should be proceeded with caution or even dropped right away.

English is too good? Her profile says basic English but her emails to you are not so bad. Sure she can use Google Translate but if you have ever tried some Russian text and converted to English it is often quite laughable and certainly doesn’t make nice fluent reading. Sure she might have a ‘friend’ or daughter helping her, but if so she would say so wouldn’t she?
