Top Tips for Teen Dating:
- Get into relationships for the right reasons.
The first step to a healthy relationship is being in one because you are ready for one, not because you’ve been pressured into it or because it’s what your friends are doing. You need to decide when the time is right for you and be confident in your decision.
- Decide what you want in a relationship.
Don’t make an endless list of things you expect in a relationship, but have a vague idea. Pick the top five things that you think are important to you, and stick to them; such as honesty because you want a relationship where you can trust the other person or it might be something as simple as they have to have a good sense of humour and laugh at your jokes, or if romance is important to you, then make sure to find someone who will at the very least make an effort to create romance in the relationship.
- Don’t force it.
If you meet a nice guy/girl at a party and you think you could have a relationship with them, don’t force it. If it’s meant to happen it will happen naturally. If you have to force it, then it’s probably not going to work out, but in saying that, don’t avoid the moment; if you feel like there could be something then wait for it to happen naturally, if it doesn’t then it’s probably not supposed to.
- The first date.
The most important thing to remember when you’re on a first date is to show respect, it’s the little things that people notice that will send them running. The simplest rule to follow is not to have your phone out during the date; don’t be constantly texting your friends telling them how the date is going, it’s disrespectful and will certainly not make you look good. The second thing to remember is not to put too much pressure on this situation; be casual about it. The first date can be scary, but it doesn’t need to be, stay relaxed and you will have a much better time.
- Once you’re in the relationship.
If you’re in a relationship with someone you should not feel pressured, there should be no reason for you to ever feel uncomfortable and if there is, it’s not a healthy relationship and you need to get out of it. A relationship is supposed to make you happier and the person you’re with should want the best for you. You should feel completely comfortable around them with everything you do. The most important thing in a relationship is communication and if you don’t feel comfortable voicing your thoughts then it’s not the right relationship.
- The break up.
Break ups are never easy, and they don’t get easier, but what does get better is knowing how to deal with them. Everyone goes through break ups in different ways, but it’s important never to rebound. Rebound relationships never work and more often than not, you’re left worse.
