Using Tinder to Find a Date

Using Tinder to Find a Date

We have all heard of Tinder. If you haven’t then my guess is you don’t have a smartphone and don’t ever watch TV or read a newspaper.

Just how many Tinder users are there will never be know. Tinder themselves claim 8 Billion ‘connections’. Just what defines a connection remains a little of a mystery, rather than specifying monthly or daily active users or engagements of the app like other social networks report. Certainly sounds more impressive.

Tinder has refused to answer questions from media on exactly how many people have downloaded the Tinder app, interacted with and continued to use the hook-up app. Rather than actual meaningful and comparative user numbers, Tinder only shares its data on ‘experiences’. That 8 billion connections refers to “matches,” as in mutual “swipe rights,” to date. Another statistic Tinder has mentioned is swipes per day, which has been reported as 1.5 billion.

But we must remember that many, if indeed not most, of these matches could well be from the so called power users and of course bots which automatically swipe right on everyone. Tinder are quick to point out though that the other party must also swipe right for there to be an actual ‘connection’. What happens when 2 different bots or even the same bot come across another bot remains to be quantified.

There are some meaningful statistics though that we can gather. Tinder reports that their users log on on average eleven times a day. They also report that in a single session women swipe through profiles for 8.5 minutes and men swipe for 7.2 minutes, on average. A quick calculation means that the average user spends almost one and a half hours per day on Tinder. I find this hard to believe. Even Facebook can’t match this at around 20 minutes per day on average so I would take these figures they supply with a grain of salt.

However, Tinder is indeed popular and depending on where you live (the larger the population, the better of course as with traditional dating methods), so is worth a try. The app itself is free and you don’t need to pay to make a connection even though they would like you to stump up with a payment to improve your chances, so you might as well give it a go. All you need is a smartphone with internet access and an app store account to download and install it. No cost and nothing to lose for most of us.

The chances of finding an available Ukrainian bride on Tinder are rather remote, but in theory if she is in your country already and happens to be in your city, or your set radius, then in theory it could work. However, you are more than likely to end up chatting with a bot that is pretending to be in your area and is new to Tinder and would prefer to talk via the email address given in the first response or message from ‘her’. Again we say ‘her’ but you will know by now often it is not and we know the scammers from the traditional methods have now branched out into the dating apps so as always be sceptical and on your guard for fraudsters and scammers.

Give Tinder a go. Nothing at all to lose, but as always be careful out there. Always arrange for your first face to face to be in a public place. People have been robbed, raped and even killed on their first meeting arranged on a dating app. Be careful. Always meet in a very public place for the first meeting. No exceptions.
